Manchester Jazz Festival 2018: Free Performances 20 – 28th July

Manchester Jazz Festival 2018

Manchester Jazz Festival starts next week, running from 20th – 28th July, and if you happen to find yourself in the city centre around Albert Square, there’ll be free musical performances to enjoy in Festival Square. Here’s a look at what you can expect.

I first attended the Jazz Festival last year,  and I must confess I don’t really listen to Jazz music, in fact I probably couldn’t even define what counts as “Jazz” music, it’s just so no on my radar. But I knew the festival was taking place and that there were going to be some performances you could enjoy free of charge in their “Festival Square”. I went along with some friends, after work bought some street food and had a great evening watching the performer Mali Hayes.

A full schedule of the artists performing in Festival Square can be found on the Manchester Jazz Festival website, with links to their music so you can listen in and get an idea of what to expect. The performances will be taking place at different times of the day, and I’m most likely to be there for the “after work” performances 6.30 – 7.30pm during the week.

Here’s who’s on:

Monday 23rd July – Andchuck

Tuesday 24th July – Lyons and La Zel

Wednesday 25th July – mjf introduces: Garde Dog

Thursday 26th July – Umbra

Friday 27th July – Joy Ellis

If you plan to go, maybe I’ll see you there!
